All you need is a smartphone and/or computer and you can start earning some extra money immediately – here’s an overview of some of the sites I recommend. All of these sites are legitimate and genuine – I use them regularly, if not every day.

It’s worth remembering that while some of these only pay small amounts, by working at them consistently in your spare time and adding them all together, you could be looking at a fair few £100’s or more by the end of the year!

I would say you could quite easily make at least £50 per month by using all, or a combination of, these sites. Obviously, with eBay, the sky is your limit as it depends on what you’re selling!

TIP: It’s worth setting up a dedicated email address for online earning so you don’t clutter up your main email and can stay organised. Doing this is also an efficient way to check when new paid tasks become available. Gmail is a great free email provider.

#1 eBay – Sell Your Stuff for Cash

eBay has been established as an online auction site since 1995 (1999 in the UK) and is well respected. I use it as much as Amazon as a shopping resource – it’s much more than just an auction site now, many items are ‘buy it now’ price so you can just click & purchase instantly, like a normal shop.

I’ve been buying and selling on eBay since 2001 – I love it! 99% of the time I’ve had positive experience with buyers & sellers, obviously as with everything, you get the odd negative one, but eBay are pretty good at stepping in to help if needed (they do tend to side with the buyer).

So, about earning money through eBay – it’s a great platform to sell things from, you name it, from clothes (my specialty), to kids toys, antiques, books, cars, etc etc, the list is pretty endless.

Simply list your items for sale, add photos, measurements, condition details etc etc and wait for someone to buy it! The choice is yours whether you list it as an auction or at a fixed price.

TIP: Research what items are worth by searching for your item and filtering this by ‘completed items’, ‘used/new’ etc to gauge an idea of how much you can expect yours to sell for.

Sorting out old clothes etc and putting them onto eBay is not only a good way to bring in some extra cash, it’s also highly satisfying just having a clear out and decluttering, win win really!

If you’re new to eBay I would recommend building up your feedback score a bit by buying a few items first, this will give your future buyers more trust. It’ll also give you a feel of how the whole thing works too.

Register for your free eBay account here. There’s also an app available which is easy to use – sell from your phone!

Back in the day we had to pay for items using old fashioned cheques and the postal service! Nowadays PayPal seems to be the norm for both buyers and sellers – I would highly recommend you get yourself an account – join here. It’s useful for much more than just eBay too.

eBay for me has been a great source of extra income – I’m constantly adding things for sale and it tops my bank account up nicely. It’s all controlled by me too – the more time I can spend creating quality listings on there, good photos etc, the more chance I have of selling.

Once your listings are live you can just sit back and wait for a sale! Don’t be disheartened if some things take a while to sell – either just sit tight or think about slowly reducing the price, depends on how quickly you want it sold really.

I’m currently experimenting with eBay reselling – that’s buying items with the sole purpose of selling them on for a profit, more on this in a later post! 🙂

#2 TopCashback / Quidco

TopCashback and Quidco are fantastic, well established, sites where you earn cashback/get paid to shop online and more. I’ve been using them for a few years now and have earnt over £1,500 for very little effort!

TopCashback screenshot - CashBoostFairy | Income Boosting Ideas | Money Blog

Search – Find a retailer or service you want to buy from. There’s cashback on over 5,000 retailers.
Select – Use the ‘Get Cashback’ button. This will open the retailer’s website in a new tab.
Shop & Get Cashback – On the retailer’s website, just shop as normal. The value of any purchase will be recorded in your account.

You don’t have to just make purchases – there’s plenty of free options available whereby you sign up for a free trial on something and earn cashback that way – just make a note somewhere so you know to cancel the service before you’re charged! It pays to be organised on this.

Once you’ve made a purchase/free offer through the site it will register as ‘tracked/pending’ on the system. It then needs to be confirmed by the original merchant before progressing to ‘confirmed’ and finally ‘payable’. Some clear in a matter of days, some take weeks, it’s worth being patient though. Both sites have a good customer service option where you can chase payments and query any that haven’t tracked.

I’ve programmed myself now to ALWAYS use TopCashback/Quidco when buying something, to check if there’s any cashback available. Even if the % of cashback offers seem low, you’ll be surprised how quickly it mounts up!

For me these cashback sites have been a great source of extra income. It’s really very little effort to just check these sites before making a purhase. I quite enjoy checking the site regularly to see if my tracked purchases have made it through to the ‘payout’ section – then I can get the funds transferred within a few days into my PayPal, bonus!

#3 Swagbucks – Get Paid for Tasks

Swagbucks is a fun rewards program where you earn points (SB/Swagbucks) for doing various different simple everyday tasks, i.e. surveys, search online, shop online, watch videos and even download & play games!

Once you have enough points you can redeem them for gift cards from your favourite retailers like Amazon, M&S, John Lewis, Debenhams, etc, get cold hard CASH via PayPal or a virtual MasterCard.

There always seems to be plenty of earning opportunities available each day. The surveys can be a little frustrating as it’s common to get so far into it & then be rejected as you don’t fit the criteria – but it’s worth just keep going & trying a new one each time as, once you are accepted, it’s an easy way to earn.

TIP: Look out for the Instant Surveys – they’re super quick to complete & earn good Swagbucks! I’ve just completed one which made me think of it 🙂

With the Watch section, you can pretty much have it running in the background and leave to run and earn you Swagbucks, just keep an eye on it to see if any feedback is needed (sometimes they ask you to rate the content). I haven’t noticed it slowing down my computer.

They have a daily TODO list, which rewards you for checking off all the daily items, which is quite a good motivation for extra points.

Register for your free Swagbucks account here & get 300 BONUS FREE Swagbucks on joining! Then you only need to earn another 180 Swagbucks to claim a £3 Amazon voucher already! Or a further 400 points for £5! (as of 5 Feb 2020).

Swagbucks often have a sale on, but, as a guide, the below screenshot today shows how many points you need for a £5 voucher:

Swagbucks screenshot - CashBoostFairy | Income Boosting Ideas | Money Blog
Swagbucks screenshot (taken 5 Feb 2020)

In terms of higher value vouchers, please see the table below as a guide. I’ll use Amazon & PayPal as examples as they’re probably one of the most popular…

£3 = 480 SB n/a
£5 = 700 SB £5 = 800 SB
£10 = 1,440 SB £10 = 1,450 SB
£25 = 3,250 SB £25 = 3,625 SB
£50 = 6,500 SB £50 = 7,250 SB

I believe Swagbucks can be a good source of extra income – it’s something you can dip into each day and watch the points rack up over time.

I’m currently trying to earn around 1,000 SB each month, just by doing a few little tasks every day, aiming for around 35 SB’s a day. This can be quite easily achieved as follows:

  • Daily Poll = 1 SB
  • Search = 1-6 SB
  • Answer = 20/30+ SB
  • Watch = 3+ SB

You can also earn Swagbucks for playing games, signing up for various trial offers & getting cashback on shopping, it’s definitely worth exploring.

Register for your free Swagbucks account here.

WARNING: I would advise to stay away from the ‘Sponsored Offers’ section under the Discover tab – the surveys within these are ok but I’d avoid any of the ‘free giftcard/enter to win’ type offers – you’ll end up getting caught up in an endless cycle of signups which are highly annoying. I know so as I’ve just been caught up in one!

Have fun!

#4 Qmee – Surveys & Search

You can earn real cash when you search, shop & take surveys with Qmee. This is a new venture for me, having only just discovered it, but so far it looks to be a good regular earner you can dip into each day – you get rewarded for using it every day too as the survey values go up!

You can choose to just concentrate on the surveys – which appear regularly daily and clearly show how much they’re worth in ££ and how long they estimate to take AND/OR download the browser extension and get paid to simply search the web!

Not only do they pay in real cash, there’s also no minimum payout threshold! In my first day on Qmee I was already at £1.50, which I didn’t think was bad for a few surveys & web searches! Remember £1.50 every day x 30 = £45 per month, not bad huh 🙂

Simply register for your free Qmee account here. There’s also an app version so you can earn on the go.

During the account creation process they’ll give you the option of downloading a browser extension – this is so you can earn while searching the web (it’s totally optional though if you’re not comfortable with this).

Then start earning! You’ll need to opt-in to the surveys and fill out some profile questions, then you’ll starting seeings surveys arrive in your dashboard. You can enable browser notifications to ensure you don’t miss new ones.

The surveys bring the usual frustration of being booted out of some for not qualifying (once you’ve started answering questions), but Qmee have sometimes still rewarded me a few pence for this, so you don’t totally lose out.

Qmee also have an Offers tab, but I’ve not used this as I tend to stick to TopCashback for my cashback offers.

When you’re ready to cashout there’s three choices = PayPal, gift card or charity. For the PayPal option simply link your account and the payment should arrive in minutes.

There appears to be a regular influx of surveys available so it has a good earning potential.

It’s REAL cash, as opposed to points, which is nice and satisfying.

I also like the fact that Qmee increase your survey rewards when you maintain a streak of 5 consecutive days of completing surveys or answering the daily poll. Your reward increase will be available for as long as your streak is active and will be shown next to the original survey reward.

I’m definitely adding Qmee to my list of daily earning activities.

UPDATE: I’m now a week in & have just cashed-out my first £10! Arrived in my account within minutes, happy days 🙂 I’m going to aim for £10 a week with this one – stay tuned to see how I get on. How about you?

#5 SerpClix – Get Paid to Search

SerpClix helps site owners SEO rankings by sending real human visitors to their search engine results page, increasing their organic click-through rate and boosting Google rankings.

You can earn between $0.05-$0.10 by registering to be one of their ‘Clickers‘. Payment is real CASH made via PayPal once you’ve reached the $5 threshold.

This one is a slower earner than the others I’d say, but I still think it’s worth including as it’s just so QUICK, EASY and pretty FUN! Each job literally takes seconds!

My earnings after Week 1 (not retiring just yet!!)

To get started simply install the Firefox browser and SerpClix extension (full instructions are given when you register). Once installed, you can just leave it open in the background and wait for the ping when a new job comes in.

When you receive a new job, you just click on the search term (which will automatically copy), then paste this into the Google search which will open up in a new tab for you. Hit ‘search’ and look through the results to find the site they want you to click highlighted in red – it’s usually on page 1, but you may have to click through a few pages.

TIP: You’ll see the little extension icon in the top right change to ‘Go’ if the site is on that particular search page. If it just says ‘Ok’ that means you need to go to the next page. Simply hit ‘End’ on your keyboard to quickly jump to the bottom of that page to hit ‘Next’.

Once you’ve found the site highlighted in red click on it to go to that page. Then just pretend you’re a normal user, scroll up and down a bit, you can even navigate to other pages within the site, but I tend to stay on the home page. DON’T click on any ads or banners.

The little SerpClix extension icon will show a countdown timer – this is how long you need to stay on the page (usually around 60 seconds). You can’t click to another tab within Firefox – I usually just minimise the browser and go about my business (I don’t use Firefox as my main browser so it’s fine). Once the time has finished the page will automatically close and you’ll be taken back to the SerpClix site where you need to wait another few seconds before accepting the next job.

It really sounds more complicated than it is! Once you’ve done a couple of clicks you’ll be fine with it and can do them without thinking.

SerpClix Clicker Ad - CashBoostFairy | Income Boosting Ideas | Money Blog

WARNING: When you create your account there’s the option of allowing adult content – by clicking this you’ll get more searches, most of them are related to gaming/casinos, but I’ve had the odd one on the other end of adult site spectrum (if you get my drift) – up to you if you accept these jobs or not, you only select the searches you’re happy with.

It’s a super simple way of earning some pennies. Granted, it’s not going to make you rich – after a week I’ve accumulated $2.20! But it’s just so easy, quick & fun – I think it’s worth adding to your list of daily money-making activities.

Every penny (or cent!) helps, as a famous supermarket says 🙂

UPDATE: I’ve just received my first automatic payout from SerpClix ($6.90)! Went straight into my PayPal, nice and easy. They make payments each month, as long as you’re above threshold.
